1. Why This Expansion Matters

On July 1, 2025, a phased ordinance officially designates Class 1 e‑bikes as non-motorized, granting access to urban and singletrack trails by City parks staff. This opens exciting new riding opportunities and aligns with the growing popularity of e‑bike tourism.

2. Where You Can Ride These New E‑Bike Trails

  • Urban & Regional Trails: These include trails like Pikes Peak Greenway and Cottonwood Creek, now open to pedal-assisted rides.

  • Singletrack Trails: Starting July 1, select soft-surface singletrack routes are also accessible to Class 1 e‑bikes, expanding your off‑road options.

  • Cheyenne Mountain State Park: Already welcoming Class 1 & 2 e‑MTBs on standard multi-use trails.

3. Spotlight: Garden of the Gods Access

Though primarily pedestrian and non-motorized, Garden of the Gods welcomes men and women on guided Class 1 e‑bike tours (5–13 miles, 1.5–2.5 hours) Manitou E‑Bike Co can coordinate exclusive rides in this iconic park, offering unforgettable views of red rock formations like Steamboat Rock and Balanced Rock.

4. Tips for Trail Safety & Etiquette

  • Stick to Class 1: Only pedal-assist, ≤20 mph e‑bikes are allowed; throttles are prohibited on trails

  • Pedestrian Priority: Always yield to hikers, runners, and equestrians with a polite bell or greeting.

  • Trail Signage Awareness: Look for new signage indicating e‑bike‐allowed sections as per city rollout

  • Share the Path: Keep speeds reasonable (15 mph recommended) and don’t frighten wildlife or other visitors.
